3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.
We often take the first chapter of the Bible for granted. We skim over it, saying “yeah yeah yeah I know all about that!” But sometimes you need give something a second look.
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”
In the beginning, there was nothing. Except God: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God.” John 1:1-2
“2 The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.”
God merely spoke, and everything that we know today came into existence. What amazing power!
“4 And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.”
Interesting to note at this point in time is that there was no sun! But that was no problem for God, He has the power to make light without sun: “And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God...And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.” Revelation 22:10 and 23
This is the God whom we serve. He created me. He created you. Take a moment to praise Him and thank Him for all that He's done.
"3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:3
“to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.” Jude 25
