"I'm proud of you!"
"You should be so proud of his achievements"
"I'm so proud of this paper I wrote!"
In Christian churches nationwide, pride is condemned as a sin.
Yet somehow, there is a type of pride that is tolerated, even condoned nearly universally.
When was the last time you said you were proud of something you did?
When was the last time someone said they were proud of you?
What makes us think that this type of pride is ok? It's not!
This form of pride is most definitely still pride, and thus sinful!
When you take pride in your children or your accomplishments or your grades, that's just as bad as taking pride in your appearance or any other pride-related sins.
What should we do in response to this problem?
First, fix the heart issue: stop taking pride in certain things.
Second, change what you say. Try something like this: “I'm happy for my little brother's achievements”, or even better, “God has blessed my little brother a lot and I'm very grateful to Him for that.”
I'm not proud of this post. But I am grateful that God has given me the opportunity to write it, and I hope it blesses and convicts y'all!
